Last month, we were thrilled to welcome three new community leaders to our board of directors:
As an associate at Duggins Wren Mann & Romero, LLP, James Nortey focuses on commercial litigation, commercial transactions, administrative law, and energy matters. James has been awarded the Leadership Austin Ascendant Award, the Greater Austin Black Chamber Emerging Leader of the Year, and the Outstanding Young Lawyer Award from Austin Young Lawyers Association.
At JPMorgan Chase, Yvette Ruiz serves as the Vice President of Community Relations and Nonprofit Management, a role primarily focused on supporting the needs of low-income communities by advancing policies and programs that are key to economic growth and prosperity. Yvette was appointed by Mayor Adler to the City of Austin Commission for Women and by Sherri Gallo to the City of Austin Hispanic and Latino Quality of Life Commission.
Vesna Sviglin recently began a role as the Business Process Improvement Manager at Centene Corporation, a multi-national healthcare enterprise. In the Austin community, Vesna has served on the Chamber of Commerce Education and Talent Council and is a parent of two Austin ISD students at Mills Elementary.
Thomas Miranda also ascended to the title of Board Chair as Darrell W. Pierce completed two years of service in this role. Thanks to both these gentleman for their leadership! You can read the full list of new officers for 2017 here.
Last but certainly not least, we will greatly miss two longtime board members who completed their service at the end of 2016- Liz Watson and Dr. Ed Sharpe. Did you know that Ed was one of the original founders of Austin Ed Fund over two decades ago? Liz and Ed were instrumental in building Austin Ed Fund into the organization it has become today and we know they will continue to be community champions for high-quality public education for years to come!
